Street Captain Update

October Postcard Drop

Thank you so much to those of you who have agreed to join us as a Volunteer Street Captain! We are planning another drop of postcards in October.  We would like to meet in the parking lot of Richmond Kings Community Centre on Saturday Oct 22 at 10am to replenish your supply of postcards. If you can come at that time to restock great, but if you can not make it then we will leave postcards inside the community centre for you to pickup at your leisure.

Postcard Blitz

Once postcards have been handed out we are planning to do use the remainder of the morning to hit a bunch of streets that currently do not have street captains. If you are able to handout postcards to a few extra streets during this time that would be great!  Take a friend, make it a nice morning walk, and get your exercise in too!

Meet: Saturday Oct 22 @ 10am in the Fort Richmond Community Centre parking lot.

Rental Inventory Submission - Now Online!

The rental inventory submission process is now online!  You can still fill out a printed inventory sheet and mail to Councillor Janice Lukes as you have in the past, but you now have the additional option to fill out the online rental inventory sheet and this data will be emailed to Councillor Janice Lukes.

University of Manitoba Student Orientation

New student orientation was held at the University of Manitoba Sept. 6 and 7 and the Fort Richmond University Height Neighbourhood Association was there to welcome students.

It was a beautiful fall day and the promenade was alive with excitement as new students as diverse as you can imagine strolled around, picking up orientation packages, taking tours of the facilities and discovering what to expect in the next few weeks.  The Neighbourhood Association was there welcoming the new students to the neighbourhood and handing out information about living off campus.  What are tenants rights?  What are their responsibilities as good neighbours?  Thanks to Bernadette McCann and Jacquie Field for being our ambassadors on this occasion .

Master’s Students Assist in Combating Illegal Rental Housing around U of M

We are extremely fortunate to have a University of Manitoba class of Master’s students focusing on this issue as part of their City Planning Program.  Please take a minute to look at the overview of the comprehensive course that Dr. Orly Linovski is leading.  As part of the curriculum, these students will also be working with community members.  In early December, 2016, we expect they will present the findings of their research to the community. See the website of Councillor Janice Lukes for more information and updates.
