2018 Greetings from the Chair

2018 Greetings from the Chair

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year from the Fort Richmond/ University Heights Neighbourhood Association.  We have been very busy working on your behalf.  Since our Annual General Meeting in May, we have supported many on Councillor Lukes’ initiatives and followed up on many of the ideas in our strategic plan.  We look forward to sharing these things with you in May at our next AGM but would like to give you a quick update now.

• We supported the motion at city council to study licensing of rental properties.

• We have supported the request to have city hall track and keep data on 311 requests and bylaw violations

• We supported the release of Councillor Lukes’ Report that you can in full find on line on her website.

• We have become part of the Brady Landfill Liaison Committee.

• We have applied to have representation on the Southlands Development committee.

• We have completed a fall drop of postcards and recruited several new street captains.

• We participated in the educational sessions at the orientation for new and international students at the University of Manitoba.

• We assisted the University leadership students in their Halloween food drive, Trick or Eat.

• We have developed a process for monitoring zoning variance requests and with your help will be listing these postings on our website.

• We assisted in hiring an intern in councilor Lukes’ office, to do further research on the location of rooming houses in our neighbourhood.

• We continue to discuss and would appreciate your input on ways to share the family friendly nature of our neighbourhood.

Again I hope you have a wonderful year and I look forward to seeing you at our Annual General Meeting in May 2018.
